Knowing and using the bible

This is a converstation I had online at a yahoo news column. It is a example of how to be prepared so that you can answer others.

I have to ask how as a Christian is denying people the right to buy, sell, get a job or have a house in any way loving as Christ taught us to be? Answer it is not. They are ruining the gospel with their hate and self righteousness. They have a form of godliness but are really denying the power of it. Paul described these christians perfectly in 2 Timothy.

2 Timothy 3 New King James Version (NKJV)

Perilous Times and Perilous Men

3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! 6 For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, 7 always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. 8 Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; 9 but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was.

You see them in the comment sections all the time putting down others, calling people names, hating anyone who disagree's with their political views even going as far to say that one political party it more Christ like then the other. They totally ignore what Christ taught us about loving others.

Matthew 5

21 You have heard that it was said to the men of old, You shall not kill, and whoever kills shall be [ac]liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the court.

22 But I say to you that everyone who continues to be [ad]angry with his brother or harbors malice (enmity of heart) against him shall be [ae]liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the court; and whoever speaks contemptuously and insultingly to his brother shall be [af]liable to and unable to escape the punishment imposed by the Sanhedrin, and whoever says, You [ag]cursed fool! [You empty-headed idiot!] shall be [ah]liable to and unable to escape the hell (Gehenna) of fire.

38 You have heard that it was said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.

39 But I say to you, Do not resist the evil man [who injures you]; but if anyone strikes you on the right jaw or cheek, turn to him the other one too.

40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your undershirt (tunic), let him have your coat also.

41 And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two [miles].

42 Give to him who keeps on begging from you, and do not turn away from him who would borrow [[ai]at interest] from you.

43 You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy;

44 But I tell you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

45 [aj]To show that you are the children of your Father Who is in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the wicked and on the good, and makes the rain fall upon the upright and the wrongdoers [alike].

46 For if you love those who love you, what reward can you have? Do not even the tax collectors do that?

47 And if you greet only your brethren, what more than others are you doing? Do not even the Gentiles (the heathen) do that?

48 You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete [ak]maturity of godliness in mind and character, [al]having reached the proper height of virtue and integrity], as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Don't let these kind of people keep you from coming to know Christ. He suffered and died for all not some. He willingly gave up His life while we were yet dead in our sins. Who of them would do that? Ask Christ to forgive your sins and come live in your heart today then find a church that welcomes you and grow in Him. They are out there.

I don't think refusing to bake a cake for a gay "wedding" is not loving people.

I would deny a molester the right to buy a house.

S

Sheryl C 58 minutes ago

A molester would be required by law to avoid children. But you would not know if they were one or not unless their picture was in the paper or at a site exposing them as one. But even they deserve the right to live.

S

Sheryl C 55 minutes ago

Paperrockscissors I suggest you read the gospels and then come back and tell me that.

P

Paperrockscissors 53 minutes ago

I have read the Gospels...Jesus never helped people participate in sin. Read Ephesians 5:11

R

Ron 46 minutes ago

Jesus called for all to "REPENT....and your sins will be forgiven". Do you know what repent means? It means to make a 180 degree turn from your current life. This means if you continue in your sins...well....let's just say your singing lessons are not going to pay off....

S

Sheryl C 46 minutes ago

That is talking about other Christians who are doing that. IT always warns about false prophets. You are talking that verse out of context.

Ephesians 5 Amplified Bible (AMP)

5 Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].

2 And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a [a]slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance.

3 But immorality (sexual vice) and all impurity [[b]of lustful, rich, wasteful living] or greediness must not even be named among you, as is fitting and proper among saints (God’s consecrated people).

4 Let there be no filthiness (obscenity, indecency) nor foolish and sinful (silly and corrupt) talk, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting or becoming; but instead voice your thankfulness [to God].

5 For be sure of this: that no person practicing sexual vice or impurity in thought or in life, or one who is covetous [who has lustful desire for the property of others and is greedy for gain]—for he [in effect] is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

6 Let no one delude and deceive you with empty excuses and groundless arguments [for these sins], for through these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of rebellion and disobedience.

7 So do not associate or be sharers with them.

8 For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of Light [lead the lives of those native-born to the Light].

9 For the fruit (the effect, the product) of the Light or [c]the Spirit [consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life.

10 And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord [let your lives be constant proofs of what is most acceptable to Him].

11 Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in contrast as to] [d]expose and reprove and convict them.

S

Sheryl C 45 minutes ago

Baking a cake is not participating in anything. IT is providing a service as Christ commanded us to do. Actually marrying them would be participating in it.

P

Paperrockscissors 42 minutes ago

It clearly commands us not to celebrate sinful things.

S

Sheryl C 39 minutes ago

I am not going to argue a point which is plain to see with you. It commands us not to argue and it just ends up providing fodder for non christians.

2 Timothy 2:1

The Lord's Approved Workman

14Remind them of these things, and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words, which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers. 15Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.…

Harry 38 minutes ago

Sheryl, my bible says it is a sin to be gay. you may have one of these liberal bible I have heard about.

S

Sheryl C 38 minutes ago

IF your faith is that weak then do not do it. For me however I will obey Christ in all things.

P

Paperrockscissors 37 minutes ago

Sheryl - I'm concerned about religious freedom being compromised and I'm concerned about Christians compromising with the world.

R

Richard 37 minutes ago

Jesus plainly said to pay to Caesar what is Caesar's.

P

Paperrockscissors 34 minutes ago

Yes, and Christians pay plenty of taxes.

S

Sheryl C 33 minutes ago

IF you feel that strongly then for you it would be a sin. I am not going to try to convince you otherwise for it says:

Romans 14:

Do Not Cause Your Brother to Stumble

…14I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but to him who thinks anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean. 15 For if because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food him for whom Christ died. 16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;…

S

Somebody S 33 minutes ago

Sheryl C... but how can one obey God's commandment to love Him with all your heart soul and mind if you are promoting something that is not of His kingdom? I'm not talking about a homosexual walking into a christian bakery and asking for a happy birthday cake. To turn someone away in that regards is judgement. But to refuse to cater a gay wedding, is something else. Beyond company branding and other aspects, you're being asked a business to sponsor the event. If a christian business person feels convicted about it, why should they be obligated to do so?

Ron... actually repent means to feel regret, not necessarily do a 180 turn. Indeed many people need time and grace in order to do a 180 turn. God forgives all sin to those who feel regret and ask for forgiveness.

S

Sheryl C 31 minutes ago

@ Harry I only have this to say:

Matthew 5

The Beatitudes

…11"Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12"Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

S

Sheryl C 28 minutes ago

@ Somebody S I already answered that if you feel it is wrong then for you it is wrong.

P

PAUL 27 minutes ago

Jesus always responded in love by telling the sinner to 'Go, and sin no more.' Jesus gave His life so that those who believe and repent will be saved. Not all are saved. Jesus came for the sinner, to redeem the sinner, not to accept the sin.

S

Sheryl C 26 minutes ago

But it is not things that are sinful it is this:

Matthew 15

16 And He said, Are you also even yet dull and ignorant [without understanding and [c]unable to put things together]?

17 Do you not see and understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the [d]abdomen and so passes on into the place where discharges are deposited?

18 But whatever comes out of the mouth comes from the heart, and this is what makes a man unclean and defiles [him].

19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts (reasonings and disputings and designs) such as murder, adultery, sexual vice, theft, false witnessing, slander, and irreverent speech.

20 These are what make a man unclean and defile [him]; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him unclean or defile [him].

S

Sheryl C 24 minutes ago

@ PAUL where did I say to accept a sin? I did not.

R

Ron 23 minutes ago

@Somebody -- So, to understand Matthew 4:17:

"From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near".

By your definition, are we to feel regret that the kingdom of heaven is near?

Also, Luke 17:3:

So watch yourselves, "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him."

Again, by your definition someone just needs to feel bad about his sins after we tell them they are wrong, and we are to forgive him?

The original Aramaic indicates more the "change the way you think and act" as a translation instead of "feel regret"....

S

Sheryl C 22 minutes ago

Did Christ sin by going to a sinners house like the pharisees claimed he did?

Luke 19:1-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

19 And [Jesus] entered Jericho and was passing through it.

2 And there was a man called Zacchaeus, a chief tax collector, and [he was] rich.

3 And he was trying to see Jesus, which One He was, but he could not on account of the crowd, because he was small in stature.

4 So he ran on ahead and climbed up in a sycamore tree in order to see Him, for He was about to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus reached the place, He looked up and said to him, Zacchaeus, hurry and come down; for I must stay at your house today.

6 So he hurried and came down, and he received and welcomed Him joyfully.

7 And when the people saw it, they all [a]muttered among themselves and indignantly complained, He has gone in to be the guest of and lodge with a man who is devoted to sin and preeminently a sinner.

8 So then Zacchaeus stood up and solemnly declared to the Lord, See, Lord, the half of my goods I [now] give [by way of restoration] to the poor, and if I have cheated anyone out of anything, I [now] restore four times as much.

9 And Jesus said to him, Today is [[b]Messianic and spiritual] salvation come to [all the members of] this household, since Zacchaeus too is a [real spiritual] son of Abraham;

10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

S

Somebody S 16 minutes ago

Sheryl C... Did Christ ever endorse sin? Did he ever go over to their house and teach while they sinned or celebrated their sinful ways?

S

Somebody S 13 minutes ago

Ron.. I'm not saying that a person doesn't start to turn away from sin as they get closer to God. But your defining repenting as a complete turn. Whats a complete turn? A week removed from the last sin? Month? Year? Lifetime?

S

Sheryl C 11 minutes ago

I already answered your question somebody and i am not going to argue with you. I mute people who are contentious.

Doing things for someone is not celebrating anything but if you think it then for you it is a sin.

John 7 minutes ago

Typical false if it feels good do it christ; and fake lying prophet twisting the meaning of Scripture. Study Confession; Repentence;Suffering and Sacrifice; then reprint along with the out of context mess you just vomited up as truth.

S

Sheryl C 4 minutes ago

I do not have to prove anything to you john. To you this verse came to me.

Matthew 7:15-20 New King James Version (NKJV)

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits

15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. 16 You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them

When Christ returns sitting on a white horse in the clouds with all His holy one with Him those who do not truly know Him will cry, grieve and mourn for you will know that He never knew you once and for all time.
